About Tyshea
Growing up in the Detroit Public Schools system, this candidate’s journey is deeply rooted in the community she now seeks to serve. From her earliest days as a student, she experienced firsthand the challenges and triumphs of the district, shaping her understanding of the needs of both students and educators. Her personal history gives her a unique perspective—one that blends lived experience with a deep commitment to ensuring every child in Detroit has access to a high-quality education.
Today, she serves as a dedicated school counselor, guiding students through academic, social, and emotional challenges. Her work has placed her at the heart of the educational process, where she advocates for mental health resources, equitable opportunities, and stronger support systems for families. She believes that education is not just about academics, but about nurturing the whole child, preparing them for success in life beyond the classroom.
Outside of her professional role, she is a proud mother of two children. This dual role as both educator and parent gives her a balanced, real-world perspective on the district’s strengths and areas for growth. She understands the hopes and concerns of parents because she shares them, and she is committed to making decisions that will benefit all families in the community.
Adding to her list of accomplishments, she is also the author of a book for parents that celebrates resilience, kindness, and the power of imagination. Through her writing, she aims to inspire parents to encourage their children to believe in themselves and embrace their unique gifts. Her creative work reflects her belief that storytelling can be a powerful tool for learning and personal growth—values she hopes to bring to the Detroit School Board if elected.
